The competition this year had to be postponed from its original date in June due a few reasons, lack of numbers being the main one. However, the re-booking the event proved to be all to the good for July 21st saw brilliant weather which was just as well as the weather in June was not good. The forecast for 21st was very accurate with daytime temperatures hitting 25deg C, cooling off slowly for our evening fun.
21 folks signed up and all 21 turned out for a bit of fun, fellowship and food in the form of a 2 course BBQ. Emma, the club steward, once again laid everything on for us. The practice putting green was laid out with putting irons ready and Emma made sure we had access to the driving range as well supplying the drivers for that.
This year’s competition was opened to the ladies and as soon as it was announced we had no fewer than 6 sign up straight away.
It was fairly predictable though that John Zarattini took first place with a score of 59. Pastor Stephen came a close second with 63. However, Hayley also carded a score of 63, the best score for the ladies, very commendable with daughter Mae a little behind in second with 81.
A good time was had by all with a generous amount of food consumed and cooked by Emma’s husband John. We had two willing and knowledgeable helpers for the evening, their two children Tom and Grace.
The epilogue was brought to us by Simon Watkins, who spoke about God and sport – a difficult enough subject to keep short and light, but he covered the subject well. Simon was also the winner of the wooden spoon much to his slight embarrassment.
